About the Southern Methodist Camps

The Eastern Annual Conference of the Southern Methodist Church runs two overnight, youth camps where children can escape the pressures of our ever-changing world and can retreat to the never-changing love of God.

Camp Three Forks Trail is located in the beautiful mountains of Clayton, Georgia
Camp Summers & Manget is located in Cameron, South Carolina
Both properties are owned and maintained by the Eastern Annual Conference of the Southern Methodist Church.

Three weeks of camp are held by the Southern Methodist Church each summer at Camp Summers & Manget. Children at Camp Summers & Manget are offered numerous activities, both indoor and outdoors, throughout the day. Each day children attend an arts and crafts time and also a morning Bible study. Organized activities are played with the children each morning giving them the opportunity to meet new people and make new friends. Children are also given free time in the afternoon where they may go fishing, ride paddleboats, swing on the swings, or play in the recreational hall. Camp Summers & Manget also has a swimming pool to offer the kids a nice way to cool off during the hot summer days. Children are served three hot meals and numerous snacks throughout the day. Following supper every night, all campers and workers come together for an evening worship service including singing and Bible study. All buildings at Camp Summers & Manget are air-conditioned and handicap accessible.

Camp Three Forks Trail is located in the beautiful mountains of Clayton, Georgia. Camp Three Forks Trail is an outdoors camp for teens and to some may seem rustic. Although the buildings are not air-conditioned, it is not necessary due to the cool mountain breeze that comes every night. Campers stay in cabins called birdhouses and use a community bathhouse. Campers are served hot, country meals and snacks throughout the day. Most activities are done outside in order to fully enjoy the beauty of God's creations. Bible study is held every morning and evening, challenging both campers and workers in their walk with Christ. Some activities throughout the week include softball, volleyball, hiking, and going down a waterslide. Campers are also given the opportunity to go white water rafting one day of camp. Camp Three Forks Trail is an escape from the world, where campers can have fun, fellowship, and grow in the word of God so that they will be prepared to face the challenges the world puts before them everyday.

The utmost goal of the camp ministry of the Eastern Annual Conference of the Southern Methodist Church is to offer youth a place to escape the pressures of the world and grow in the love of Christ in a safe environment. Safety is an utmost concern of all staff, counselors, and workers. Currently, the camps have three staff members certified in First Aid/CPR/AED, with two of these also being certified lifeguards. All staff, counselors, and workers are required to fill out an application; all workers over the age of 18 are also required to agree to a Federal Background Check. Safety is a serious issue and campers are not allowed to participate in activities that are thought to be harmful to the health of any camper.

Counselors and workers for both Camp Three Forks Trail and Camp Summers & Manget are chosen after careful consideration. It is a goal of the camp ministry to not just choose people who are willing to serve, but also people who are genuine Christians seven days a week. As children are very impressionable, it is of utmost importance that workers be a Biblically knowledgeable, Christian example to each child. Workers who live each day for Christ are sought to work with the camp ministry.
